THE SMALL COTTAGE

Built at the same time as the house in 1890, this was the original "Summer Kitchen". The cottage is decorated in a more modern décor with many amenities for longer visits.

It is furnished with a queen-size bed, a loveseat, small table and chairs and a large television. A microwave, dishes, coffee maker and refrigerator are also provided. The small cottage is independently air conditioned and heated, and also has an Ethernet connection. The modern bathroom is equipped with a step-in shower and its own water heater.

THE LARGE COTTAGE

The Large Cottage was built in the early 1940’s as a one bedroom rental home. The living room offers a couch with a double-size day bed and a large television with DVD and VHS player. A separate bedroom has a queen-size bed. The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, dishes, coffee maker, toaster and table/chairs. The large cottage has a modern bathroom with step-in shower, independent hot water, heating, air conditioning and has Ethernet.

THE MAIN HOUSE

The main house is decorated in a classic Victorian style. This beautiful western colonial home boasts extensive original woodwork throughout. Twelve-foot ceilings on the main floor and an eleven-foot overhead upstairs leave guests with a good sense of the grand scale of the home.

The five fireplaces have distinctly different, original tile work and mantles, highlighting the incredible woodwork. Three pairs of huge ten-foot tall pocket doors open into various living areas.

The entry foyer is larger than most rooms in modern homes. The double-door, eight-foot tall entry opens to this expansive foyer. The central fireplace stands at the opposite end of the room with its distinctive built-in wood boxes. The large, eight-foot tall, hand-carved mid-19th century Danish cabinet dominates this area.

The original men’s smoking parlor to the right of the foyer is accessed through one of the huge pocket doors. The matched Victorian rosewood furniture and numerous period toys, record players, and games accentuate the wealth and prestige Sheriff Olney enjoyed within his home.

Opposite the smoking parlor is the dining room with its tall, solid-oak dish cabinet and various memorabilia. This is where guests will enjoy their hearty, full breakfasts.

Olney House dining room. Most of the present furnishings in the main house are antiques collected by the present owners during nearly thirty years of military service on three continents.

The upstairs parlor was the original Master Bedroom for the Sheriff and his wife. A large room with one of the fireplaces, it is used to accommodate extra guests of large parties and serves as a communal area for all guests.

Comfortable modern furnishings include a large couch, several chairs, game tables, and an over-sized television is equipped with a VCR and DVD player. The parlor has immediate access to the upper veranda where you will find comfortable wicker furniture and can enjoy the cool evening desert breeze. The parlor is large enough to accommodate small business meetings (additional tables and chairs are available.) The parlor can accommodate about fifteen people for luncheon meetings.

Each of the upstairs bedrooms and the parlor are equipped with individual remote-controlled heat pump/air conditioners for your total comfort. The upstairs bathroom has a huge walk-in shower and serves all three bedrooms in the main building.

Bridal Suite.BRIDAL SUITE

Originally Sheriff Olney's sitting room, the "bridal suite" is graciously decorated with a oak lady’s dressing table, a Maple armoire, and a king-size bed with an allergenic, feather-top mattress.

A French door offer private access to the upper veranda and ten-foot pocket doors open to the parlor, creating a unique setting for wedding celebrations.

THE FIREPLACE ROOM

Located on the left at the head of the stairs, this is the only bedroom with its own fireplace.

The beautiful blue fireplace tiles stand out against the distinctive cloth wall covering. The room contains the only piece of furniture fully certified as originally belonging to the Olney’s, a magnificent 100-year-old, four-posted bed.

The Fireplace Room. Specially built to accommodate the Sheriff, it outsized standard beds of its time, but is amazingly close to modern queen-size proportions.

The Fireplace Room is equipped with it’s own pedestal sink and a small closet.

THE SHERIFF'S ROOM

Located at the back of the upper landing, this room was dubbed the Sheriff’s Room by previous owners because it incorporates Sheriff George Olney’s home office. The office was originally accessed from the parlor and contained Olney’s large roll-top desk.

The small office was specifically designed to use curved glass windows facing downtown Safford. It’s said the Sheriff could watch over the township from this vantage point.

The alcove now has a reclining chaise lounge for quiet solitude or reading. The bedroom is furnished with a king-size bed, an antique washstand, and an exquisite, English oak dressing table.
